After a sterling career spanning 38 years in the British Army, Major Mark Rimmington (Retired) has traded his well-polished boots for bar pumps to serve up cheer at your beloved local. His distinguished military service saw him serving with the Royal Engineers, Royal Artillery, Army Air Corp, and Adjutant Generals Corps. He’s served our nation in places far-flung and diverse, from Belize to the Falkland Islands and from Saudi Arabia during Operation Granby to Sierra Leone and Kenya.

Notably, while in Sierra Leone, Mark’s diligent efforts earned him a prestigious Chief of Joint Operations Commendation. In between his global adventures, Mark found time to honour Her Majesty’s service at the Queen Mother’s funeral, standing as an Usher and Sword Bearer to His Royal Highness Prince Charles at Westminster Abbey.

Yet, for all his military achievements, Mark has always nurtured an ambition to be a landlord. Mark relishes the opportunity to realise his goal, given to him by our friends at Marston’s Brewery. His outstanding administrative and management skills, so essential during his military service, are now being put to excellent use in overseeing the daily operations of The Grapes.

But don’t let the military precision fool you, for Mark is every bit the friendly landlord you’d hope for. He’s as down to earth as a cask of Marston’s Pedigree and as inviting as a roaring fire on a nippy Derbyshire evening. An ardent family man known for his infectious humour and warm-hearted nature, he is the perfect mix for our congenial pub atmosphere.

Joining him behind the bar, we’re delighted to introduce Viv Thomas. Viv’s charisma could outshine the sun on the cloudiest British days. Her successful lifelong career in sales has enabled her to forge lasting connections, and her razor-sharp wit will make her an irresistible presence at The Grapes. Viv’s warm and personable nature is sure to make every guest feel at home. Viv also has a passion for fitness and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Together, Mark and Viv form the perfect partnership. Their combined charm, dedication, and experience promise to keep The Grapes at the heart of our community, serving up not just great ale but unforgettable experiences.
